In my sermon on Sunday morning I suggested that eating together can be a form of spiritual warfare. I few eyebrows were raised at this suggestion, but it’s one in which I sincerely believe. I made this suggestion within the context of trying to explain that when Peter in 1 Peter 3: 18 – 22 says that Christ was “put to death in the flesh and made alive in the spirit”, Peter was setting up a contrast not a dualism. Indeed we need to recover a Christian anthropology that views humankind holistically. I believe that a holistic Christian anthropology, withether it be Polkinghorne's "dual aspect monism" or Nancey Murphy’s “Non-reductive Phyisicalism” helps us see the “spiritual” significance of the normal and the everyday. Indeed it helps us see past many false dualism we’ve inherited and struggle to free ourselves from. So when we invite people to share a meal with us, especially if they are different from us in culture, gender, age, race or socio-economic standing, we participate / anticipate in the New Creation. We declare to a watching world that we are one in Christ that there is neither “Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female” (Gal 5: 2).I know - that only loosely comes under the heading that I've given this post. But it's a great quote that I nicked from Conrad's latest book (he's quoting someone else). I was gonna call it 'The power of Eucharist,E' but I suspect that would need even more explanation!

WASHINGTON (June 23) - Symbols are everything in politics. They can get you elected - or defeated. That's why Democrats fear getting singed by a proposed flag-burning ban, forced into a vote that Republicans will cast as a test of patriotism.[/url]

Headlines Or, you could add the script on this page to display the headlines from updated blogs on a web page of your own. Your choice! Please let me know if either of these don't work for you. (Incidentally, if it looks the aggregator's broken, 'cos it keep re-publishing my stuff it's not. It's the LwC RSS feed that updates when you change categories! :-? )

"I freely admit that I am not interested in the Bible apart from its revelation of Jesus, because Jesus IS THE REVEALED GOD. He doesn't teach like other teachers; he reveals God. He doesn't give good examples. What he does, God is doing. He is not a character in the Biblical drama. He is the Biblical message itself. If we are God's people, we only see the wrath of God in Jesus. We only know the justice of God in Jesus. We only know the love of God in Jesus. Everything else is a shadow, a pointer, a sign, a reminder. Jesus is the reality. All that scripture spoke about God was leading us to understand, embrace, trust and believe in Jesus."Check it out.

This aggregator seeks to publicise the views of people whose heritage dervies - by birth or by choice - from the left-wing of the reformation. As such, the blogs represented draw upon or discuss (in varrying degrees) the anabaptist tradition. So far, I've just populated it with the blogs that I know of - and read - but if you would like to see your blog included (or removed!), or have another blog to recommend, I would love to hear from you. Leaving Münster's new anabaptist aggregator: http://www.anabaptist.co.uk/aggregator.php You can see the OPML file here. Obviously, it'll need a couple of days to calm down after having just swallowed a dozen feeds, but it should be fit for consumption before you know it.
